After Joe Paterno’s death, I started trying to think of profound things to write.

That’s what writers do, after all. We try to be profound. Or at least interesting. But profound is really our goal and one that we usually fall short of attaining. Because there are only so many profundities to go around and Hemingway and Fitzgerald took most of them.

There was a mutual respect from around the Missouri Valley when Wichita State coach Jody Adams introduced her first full recruiting class to the conference in the 2009-2010 season.

K-State's Irving understands move to bench

Most of the time, when a basketball coach alters his starting lineup, there is a clear-cut winner and an obvious loser.

The winner gets to hear his name called in pregame introductions. The loser heads to the bench and has to deal with a demotion.
